River Pollution Takes Toll Article — Mishicot, Wisconsin

An August 15, 1951 newspaper article titled, “River Pollution Takes Toll.”

Article text:

Shown above is a group of more than 80 minnows, carp, suckers and rock bass found floating dead in the East Twin river on the Roland Samz farm, one and one-half miles south of Mishicot late last week. Manitowoc County Conservation Warden Herbert Vander Bloemen attributed the death of the fish to lack of oxygen in the river. According to Mr. Vander Bloemen, sewage and wastes spewed into the river by adjoining industrial plants and homes consume the oxygen and destroy plants in the river bed which produce oxygen. .Death of numerous carp—last fish to die in a polluted stream—indicates. the warden said, that the East Twin is intensely polluted.
