This item was donated to the Mishicot Historical Museum from the estate of Terry Gollata. The family of Terry Gollata worked with the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society to find new homes for his family history collection.
This is a transcription of all the information in the Militia Book of 1885. The book states: “This book should contain the names of all males fit for military duty between the ages of 18 and 45 years.”
The original book is in the office of the Register of Deeds, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Preston Jones, Register of Deeds, generously allowed photocopying of the book on his office copying machines. Terry Gollata copied the information onto index cards and alphabetized them.
The information from the cards was then put into a digital file by Evelyne J. Keith. Some names which were not legible were deciphered by Robert J. Bjerke of the UW Manitowoc campus.
